Wireless Power Transfer
Wireless power transfer work spans undergraduate research for underwater applications and a separate postdoctoral hardware prototype project.
How Inductive Power Transfer Works
Wireless power transfer moves energy between two magnetically coupled coils without a physical connection. A high-frequency current in the transmitter coil produces a magnetic field that induces a voltage in the receiver coil; compensation capacitors tune both coils to resonance so that power can be transferred efficiently across a gap with loose coupling. Removing exposed contacts makes the approach attractive where connectors are impractical, such as charging equipment underwater.
Projects
Undergraduate Research: Underwater Applications
Undergraduate research investigated wireless power transfer for underwater applications.
Postdoctoral Hardware Prototype
A later postdoctoral project concerned wireless power transfer hardware and prototyping, separate from the undergraduate work. The test bench is documented in the Wireless Power Transfer Test Bench repository.
